Dear Cast and Crew,
I have never made a film that was so near and dear to my heart as “Paperboys.” I grew up with three older brothers that passed along their experiences in life, wisdom on how to shave, and one more thing: a paper route. We delivered “The Suburban Life” for 15 years in a small town called Springdale in Illinois. Once it was finally handed down to me, I was already a professional. I would ride through the neighborhood two days a week jumping curbs, dodging cars, and throwing papers. It was dominant!
Someone once told me in film school, “Write what you know.” That was one of the best pieces of advice I have ever received. I wrote a feature length script about paperboys competing in an annual race simply entitled, “Paperboys.” Delivering a newspaper is not just black and white. There are trials and discouragements, excitements and triumphs, and most importantly behind every delivered newspaper is the life of a young paperboy.
After countless revisions I thought it was time to bring the magic to life. I condensed 90 pages into 20, borrowed a set of bikes, bought a stack of newspapers, and yelled, “Action!” It was a weekend of laughs, memories, and unforgettable moments. Working with these 11 kids was one of the best times I have ever had in my life! It was an experience I will never forget, and I know you won’t either once you watch the film! Thank you!
Sincerely,
David Michor
